Who you Are…

  • You are a man — single or married, with or without a family — whose Christian journey is rooted in the Roman or Reformed Catholic tradition. Deep within, a quiet desire has long stirred: a longing to serve Christ and His Church in clerical life. Yet the traditional discipline of celibacy may have stood as a barrier too great, whether personally, pastorally, or practically.

  • You kneel before Christ Crucified not out of habit, but from devotion. The Mass is not merely ritual; it is your lifeblood. In the mystery of the Eucharist, you hear the gentle echo of divine presence resounding within your heart.

  • You long for a religious community — not one defined by buildings or borders, but one woven together by spiritual brotherhood, shared purpose, and a common rhythm of prayer and service.

  • You live and work in the secular world, yet your soul seeks more. You feel called to volunteer, to bring compassionate pastoral care to those most overlooked or vulnerable — especially where suffering meets silence.

  • You are mature, balanced, aged 25 or beyond — with no upper age limit, because the Spirit does not count years.

  • You believe the Church must reflect the radical welcome of Christ: a doctrine reformed by love, embracing single parents, the divorced and remarried, and our LGBQ+ brothers and sisters without hesitation or judgment.

  • You cherish reverent, well-prepared liturgies — Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Solemn Mass, and High Church celebrations that lift the soul toward heaven.

  • You sense an urgency: that secularism has hollowed the spiritual landscape, leaving confusion, division, and aggression in its wake. You wish to labour in the vineyard for a renewed Christian civilisation, founded on the Judaeo-Christian inheritance of over two thousand years.

  • You know the Gospel is under siege — from materialism, individualism, violence, exploitation, and prejudice. And you feel it is time to stand up — not with anger, but with witness.

  • And yes, you are of good standing, free from criminal records, and living a life that seeks the good. Not perfect — but striving, faithful, and ready.

How we Live our Vocation

Within the Canons Regular of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a man may live and express his Oratorian vocation in one of two ways:

In domibus propriis — residing “out there,” in his own home and local community, whether single or married.

In communitas — if he is single, he may alternatively choose to live in a shared community house.

CRSHJ members are Oratorians in the sense that the spirit and pastoral vision of St Philip Neri shape their manner of life and ministry. Unlike traditional religious institutes, however, CRSHJ Oratorians may hold secular employment should they wish to remain integrated within the communities they serve and accompany. See more

A Gospel under Siege

A quiet crisis is unfolding — not in one dramatic moment, but in the slow erosion of what once held our civilisation together. It is as if the house we live in is quietly smouldering. Some look away, hoping the flames will fade. Others stand up, take hold of the garden hose, and call for help — not because they must act alone, but because they know they are not alone.

Western civilisation faces a deep spiritual and cultural challenge. We see it everywhere: consumerism that numbs the soul, loneliness masked as individualism, and ideologies that offer simple answers but demand silent submission. At the heart of this shift lies the fading presence of a Christian worldview — the Judaeo-Christian heritage that shaped compassion, solidarity, human dignity, peaceful progress, the arts, music, literature, the free press, democracy, and so much more.

Even those who call themselves agnostic or atheist often do so in relation to the Christian God. Our entire moral language — justice, mercy, freedom — has its roots in the Gospel. And yet the balance between faith and society is faltering.

Churches are closing — not only from lack of funds, but from lack of presence. Pews sit empty, doors remain locked, and buildings once filled with prayer are sold to developers. It is tempting to think this decline is inevitable. It is not.

This is the time to stand — not in outrage, but in witness. To rise with quiet strength, compassionate hearts, and a deep desire to help renew what once gave meaning and direction to so many lives.
